My story is not as dramatic as many I’ve heard. I didn’t lose any money, have my credit ruined, or my heart broken. By the time I ended it with Bob* I was so angry I was happy to see him go.
I met Bob on the popular dating site Match.com. He enjoyed writing as much as I did and an attraction blossomed before we even jumped to the phone. So did the lies. Bob painted a picture of himself as a successful businessman, half owner in a company with strong financials and lots of potential growth. He told me that he had once owned a house but sold it to move closer to his job. He opted for an apartment because he didn’t want to deal with the maintenance a house required. [more…]

I got divorced almost 14 years ago. I was alone for two years when I met Rick at my kids’ Catholic school. He was my youngest son’s basketball coach. I saw him and knew I was going to marry him. That was in November. By December, we had spoken briefly twice or so as our sons were buddies and spent the night with each other. They were in second grade. He came to visit with his two kids Christmas Day. I went out on a first date the day after Christmas. He was so handsome, smart, and smooth.
